Where MakeLight places the directional lights that simulate the lighting situation from the HDR image the best. |
MakeLight, faster rendering - using directional lights from HDR images.Full spherical HDR images are the perfect source for credible rendering results, using image based lighting technology. Yet, whenever fast and/or cost-efficient rendering is required, it is wise to intelligently generate an artificial set of light sources which mimic the real world light distribution. As these light sources can then be treated analytically, the rendering process is sped up dramatically, while real world matching quality is retained. But how to to that? SpheronVR presents MakeLight. An algorithm for highest quality light source generation from High Dynamic Range images. This algorithm has been developed in close cooperation with the University of Kaiserslautern and it condenses years of research on algorithms for image based lighting. Using MakeLight is as easy as 1-2-3. Select a 50 Mpixel, high resolution, HDR image captured with the SpheroCam HDR, choose the required amount of light sources and independent maps you wish to be generated and specify the output file format. Matching real world luminosity distribution has never been easier in CG.
The MakeLight workflow and algorithm is part of the SpheroCam HDR scope of supply. |
